Toshiba Electronics Europe has introduced its latest high-capacity enterprise hard drives, designed to meet the ever-growing data storage needs of modern data centers and cloud infrastructures. The new Mx11 family includes two cutting-edge series:
- MG11 Series: Offering up to 24TB of storage using Conventional Magnetic Recording (CMR) technology.
- MA11 Series: Featuring up to 28TB of storage, utilizing Shingled Magnetic Recording (SMR) for increased density.
Both series are helium-sealed and built on Toshiba’s innovative Flux Control Microwave Assisted Magnetic Recording (FC-MAMR™) technology, promising improved performance and energy efficiency.
Key Features and Benefits:
- Capacity and Density: The MG11 Series offers 24TB capacity, while the MA11 Series pushes up to 28TB, ideal for large-scale data storage solutions.
- Efficiency: Designed for optimal power consumption, these drives reduce operational costs without compromising on performance.
- High Performance: With 7,200rpm speed and up to 295MiB/s sustained transfer rate, the MG11 Series is 9% faster than previous models, making it ideal for high-demand applications like data archiving and video surveillance.
- Reliability: Rated for 24/7 operations with an MTTF of 2.5 million hours and an annualized failure rate (AFR) of 0.35%, ensuring consistent performance over time.
Applications:
The Mx11 Series is built to support a wide range of enterprise-level use cases, including:
- Cloud storage: High-density storage solutions for hyperscale cloud infrastructures.
- Data centers: Optimized for large-scale data archiving, online backup, and high-traffic data operations.
- Security and surveillance: Handles high-volume video data efficiently, making it perfect for 24/7 video monitoring.
What Makes the MA11 Series Unique?
The MA11 Series uses SMR technology, which overlaps the data tracks during write operations, increasing storage capacity per disk. This is particularly beneficial for hyperscale data centers that can optimize their systems to handle host-managed SMR drives, providing better cost efficiency for high-volume storage demands.
“The Mx11 Series delivers new levels of capacity and total cost of ownership (TCO) efficiency, enabling customers to optimize operational costs while expanding their data center infrastructure,” said Larry Martinez-Palomo, Vice President, Toshiba’s Storage Products Division.
Availability
Sample shipments of the MG11 Series are starting this month, with the MA11 Series expected to begin shipping in Q4 of 2024.
