World’s Smallest Multilayer Ceramic Capacitor from Murata

MLCC size comparison

Murata Manufacturing Co. Ltd has announced a major breakthrough in the development of multilayer ceramic capacitors (MLCCs). The company introduced the world’s first 006003-inch size MLCC, measuring just 0.16mm x 0.08mm. This new capacitor is approximately 75% smaller in volume than their previous smallest model, the 008004-inch MLCC.

As modern electronic devices become more advanced and compact, the demand for components that occupy less space has grown significantly. The latest devices, such as smartphones, now use up to 1,000 MLCCs per unit, making Murata’s ultra-compact capacitors crucial for high-density component mounting in increasingly limited spaces.

Murata has been a leader in the MLCC market for decades, known for its pioneering innovations. In 2014, they introduced the 008004-inch MLCC, which saw wide use in smartphones and wearable devices. Their latest MLCC is the result of years of R&D, offering further miniaturization and improved performance for modern electronics.

“Murata continues to push the boundaries of electronic component design, and this new product is a testament to our commitment to innovation,” said Hidetoshi Nakagawa, General Manager of Ceramic Capacitor Marketing at Murata. “We are proud to contribute to the ongoing miniaturization of electronic devices with this groundbreaking MLCC.”
